Sublime Climes

Sublime Climes 2007 (06:00)

In the piece Sublime Climes I was looking in part at the ideas of Xavier De Maistre in his novel Journey Around My Room.

As the novel charts an expedition from one part of his bedroom to another, the animation depicts a miniaturised journey around a table-top. As well as being a journey through restricted space, it also traces time passing through the evolving landscape, changing from millennia ago to the eighteenth century advent of the sublime, to the present, and finally ending in an uncertain future.

I used books, magazines, newspapers and internet printouts to reflect the tension between exterior and interior space. I wanted to show the way in which these communication methods endlessly bring the outside world into the interior domain as unwelcome as it often is. © Daisy Richardson 2007

Submerge 2008 (02:17)

Submerge looks at the claustrophobic interior of a room in a house; objects move around by themselves and eventually the whole house begins to be taken over by a gelatinous substance. © Daisy Richardson 2008
